Time tracking that feeds the rest of the project
In TimeMagick, a tracked hour is more than a timesheet line. It is recorded against a project and task, and the same hour burns the project budget, goes through approval with a billable percentage, appears in Project Billing, and ends up in the client's margin. Nothing is exported or re-keyed along the way.
The Windows desktop app and the iOS and Android apps track time and activity, with desktop and mobile time reported separately. Manual time carries a written reason and goes to approval, and each member's day shows worked, idle, manual and private time with arrive and leave times.
Clockify also tracks project and task time, with timers, timesheets, browser extensions and offline mobile tracking.
Explore TimeMagick time trackingMonitor productivity without watching employees' screens
TimeMagick gives managers detailed activity, app and URL visibility without screenshot capture. Managers can understand how work time is being used without collecting images of employees' screens, documents, conversations or other visible desktop content.
It is a data-based rather than image-based approach: less intrusive, more privacy-conscious, and a better match for teams that want activity visibility without screen capture.
TimeMagick
Activity data, never screen images
- Activity % from keyboard clicks, mouse clicks and mouse movement
- A configurable activity calculation
- Active app and URL, with time per item
- Productivity classification per role or member
- Idle time with a configurable threshold
- Private Time: time counted, app and URL detail withheld
- No screenshots are taken
Clockify
Also offers screenshot monitoring
On paid monitoring plans, Clockify's desktop software can capture screenshots that admins and managers can view, alongside app, website and idle activity.
Run the project where the hours are tracked
The same project your team works on is the project being tracked, budgeted, scheduled, discussed, billed and measured for profitability.
- A drag-and-drop Projects board with custom statuses, plus two that update automatically from tracked time
- A native interactive Gantt: project and task hierarchy, drag to reschedule, resizable durations, assignees and progress
- A portfolio Gantt across every client
- Project scheduling and resource planning
- Budgets against spent time, with budget alerts and forecasting
Clockify supports projects, estimates, budgets, scheduling and forecasting; board and Gantt views come from Plaky, a separate CAKE.com product.
Explore project managementKeep the conversation inside the project
Every TimeMagick project has its own channel, with file attachments, next to its tasks, hours and budget. The team also has direct messages and groups, all with the same users, projects and permissions as the rest of the product.
With TimeMagick, the team does not need to move between separate products to connect a project conversation with its tasks, hours, budget and client access.
Clockify itself does not provide the same native project communication workflow; CAKE.com offers Pumble separately for team communication.
Explore project communicationA dedicated workspace for clients
Client Members are external accounts linked to one or more of your clients. They sign in to their own TimeMagick workspace with a Dashboard, Projects, Timesheets, Report, Message Channels and Sensai, separate from your internal team's experience.
This is not merely a shared report link. It is a client-facing workspace inside TimeMagick.
Clockify can share reports externally. TimeMagick gives the client an actual workspace.
See the client portalBilling starts before the invoice
TimeMagick treats billing as part of project delivery rather than an isolated invoice screen:
- Time is tracked against the project and task.
- The approver sets a billable percentage.
- Project Billing shows billable against billed hours per client and project.
- A one-off invoice, or a scheduled recurring invoice that goes through approval, is created.
- The result flows into project and client profitability.
Invoices support duration-based and quantity-based lines, taxes, notes, PDF download and a status, from multiple issuing entities and billing accounts.
Clockify also supports invoicing and recurring invoices, on its Standard plan and above.
Explore billing and invoicingGo beyond a basic profit figure
TimeMagick turns project and client data into a broader commercial-performance view: Revenue, Profit, Avg Client Profit, Avg Client Margin, Effective Rate, Utilisation, Projects Over Budget, Repeat Client %, Retention %, Avg Project Gap and Revenue Concentration, plus Most and Least Profitable Clients, Falling Activity, Uninvoiced Hours, Low-Profit Projects and Client Health.
It answers which clients and projects are worth the work, which hours still need invoicing and which relationships are cooling, rather than stopping at cost-versus-billable reporting.
Clockify supports labor cost and profit reporting through billable and cost rates.

Control access at a more granular level
TimeMagick roles are yours to design. Each custom role is set across 40 permission modules, with View, Create, Update and Delete where they apply. Reports and Export Report, Projects and All Projects, and Project Channel and All Project Channels are separate modules, and clients get the locked CLIENT role.
Clockify uses Owner, Admin, Manager and user roles with project access and configurable permissions.

Why teams choose TimeMagick instead of stitching tools together
TimeMagick's features operate on the same project, client, time and billing data inside one product. A tracked hour burns the budget that drives alerts and forecasts, is approved with a billable percentage, appears in Project Billing, is invoiced, and ends up in the client's margin and Client Health, while the project's conversation and the client's view sit on that same project.
One project record. One connected workflow.
Tracked work. Recorded against a task, with activity detail.
Project and task. Carry the client, members, due dates and conversation.

Approval. The approver sets what is billable.
Billing. Project Billing: billable against billed hours.
Invoice. One-off or scheduled recurring.

Frequently Asked Questions
How TimeMagick compares with Clockify. Clockify information reviewed September 2026.
Is TimeMagick a Clockify alternative?
Yes. For project-based teams, TimeMagick goes beyond a conventional time tracker by combining time and activity tracking with native project management, resource planning, communication, client access, billing and deeper profitability analytics in one product. Clockify offers additional ecosystem advantages such as its public API, integrations and free plan.
Does Clockify support project budgets?
Yes. Clockify has time and budget estimates with budget alerts and forecasting on its Pro plan and above. TimeMagick connects budgets to the whole project: budget against spent time appears on project cards, the overview, the Gantt, approvals and dashboards, and its budget alerts and forecasting feed Projects Over Budget and project margin in the profitability module.
Does Clockify support profitability tracking?
Yes. Clockify reports labor cost and profit using billable and cost rates. TimeMagick extends this into a dedicated KPI and Client Health layer covering client margin, effective rate, low-profit projects, uninvoiced hours, retention and revenue concentration.
Does Clockify take screenshots?
Yes, Clockify can capture screenshots on paid monitoring plans. TimeMagick deliberately does not. Instead, it tracks activity signals, apps, URLs, idle time and productivity without capturing screen images.
Does TimeMagick take screenshots?
No. TimeMagick never captures screen images. Managers see activity from keyboard clicks, mouse clicks and mouse movement, app and URL usage classified by productivity, and idle time, and members can switch to Private Time to withhold app and URL detail.
Which product has project chat?
TimeMagick. Every TimeMagick project has its own channel, alongside direct messages and groups, in the same product as the project's tasks, hours and budget. Clockify points to Pumble, a separate CAKE.com product, for team communication.
Which product has Gantt planning and resource planning?
TimeMagick has both natively: an interactive Gantt per project and across the client portfolio, plus project scheduling and resource planning, in the same product as time tracking. Clockify has scheduling and resource planning; its Gantt view comes from Plaky, a separate CAKE.com product.
Can both create invoices?
Yes. TimeMagick treats billing as part of project delivery: the approver sets a billable percentage, Project Billing shows billable against billed hours per client and project, and invoices, including scheduled recurring invoices with approval, are created from that approved work. Clockify also creates invoices from billable time.
Does TimeMagick support recurring invoices?
Yes. In TimeMagick you schedule a recurring invoice and choose when it becomes due; when it does, it appears in TimeMagick and goes through the approval workflow. Clockify also offers recurring invoices on its Standard plan and above.
Which is better for project-based agencies?
TimeMagick is the stronger fit for agencies that want project delivery, time, resource planning, communication, client access, billing and profitability in one product. Clockify may fit an agency whose main requirement is a public API and integrations, screenshot capture or a free plan.
